Kitirik

When I was growing up in Houston in the 1950's one of my favorite shows on TV was Kitirik's Carousel. The show was on Channel 13, KTRK. They came up with the name by putting the letter i in between the station's letters (KiTiRiK). Kitirik's real name was Bunny Orsak and she was 23 when she got the job in 1954. Her mother made her cat costume. The show had a studio audience but if it was your birthday you got to go on stage and meet her. I absolutely loved her and when I was 5 I got to be on the show. Here is a picture from that day, one that I will never forget. I also found some other pictures of her that I've included.

Kitirik! I also have a picture of me with her on my birthday. "'Skettie" was NOT my favorite meal but it seemed like it was everyone else's. Remember Cadet Don? fyi... Last time I looked, that old carousel is still in the KTRK warehouse. Love your blog, thanks for the memories!

I do remember Cadet Don. I also remember a show where you got to take as many pennies as you could put in one hand out of a wishing well on your birthday. I don't know if that was on Kitirik or on some other show. I remember doing this but I don't remember anything else about it. Do you?

I must have been 4 or 5 years old when I got to be on the show. It was my birthday and I remember Kitirik asking what I wanted to be when I grew up. Gawd, I loved her.

I remember a Houston show with a fantasy-theme called Maryjane's Magic Castle, which apparently no one else has reminisced about on the WWW.

But I don't know if that had the penny game.

I grew up in Houston watching Kitirik and was on her show. Years ago when I worked on the railroad an engineer confided in me. That he used to come home every day. Turn on Kitirik just to goggle eye at her

I think a lot of dads watched Kitirik with their children.
