This Kiva loan is in honor of my mother's birthday:
"Grigor lives with his nice family in Dilijan city, which is in the Tavush region. Grigor says that he greatly enjoyed his two previous deals with Kiva and hopes for the third one. He hopes that Kiva lenders will be so kind again to support him in his request with the loan amount.
Grigor works at the computer office, and there he repairs computers and printing machines. His wife also works there as a manager. Grigor has two pretty daughters; the elder already graduated from a state university, and she works at the insurance company. The smallest daughter is still a student at the Yerevan State University, at the faculty of Romano and Germanic languages. She studies at the paid division and Grigor would like to solve the problem of tuition fee repayment again with the help of Kiva lenders.
This loan of 450,000 Armenian drams he seeks as he must pay his smallest daughter’s tuition fee."

Susan Lena Wells White

Here are 2 pictures of my mother's aunt, Susan Lena Wells White (1882-1968). She is the sister of my mother's father James Daniel Wells. My mother was named after her.

My Mother's Family

Today would have been my mother's 96th birthday. I have posted just about all of the pictures I have of her on this blog but was able to find pictures of her maternal grandmother Canzadie Oliver Magee (1862-1949) and maternal great grandparents Andrew Jackson Oliver (1832-1919) and Cynthia Ann Faver Oliver (1843-1920).

My Parent's Wedding

Here is a picture of my parents on their wedding day September 1, 1940 and a story my mother wrote about their journey to their new home in Boothville La..

I thought I had lost this picture but found it wedged under a drawer in a chest of drawers, frame and all. I remember coming home from school the day this picture was taken and finding a photographer in the house. My mother died less than a year later. I've always wondered if she had some kind of premonition of her death and had pictures taken for that reason.

My Mother's Autobiography

I found this autobiography my mother wrote, probably as a school assignment in the 3rd or 4th grade. Today would be her 94th birthday.

Daydreams of a Young Girl

Here are a few poems my mother wrote when she was 15. The title on the front of the little book she put together was "Daydreams of a Young Girl."

Cousins

Here is a picture of me and my sister with our cousins Russell Dan, Eileen, and Beverly Herring. It was taken in front of our house on Drummond. A few years later I would be the flower girl at Eileen's wedding to Jerry Paul Cobb.

Here I am again with my mother. I love her bangs and long dangly earrings.

At the end of every school year at Mark Twain Elementary, there was a Western/Texas themed festival where everybody wore cowboy, cowgirl, or Indian costumes. Even though Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were my heroes I always loved Indians so my mother made this beautiful turquoise squaw girl dress for me to wear.

Here is another picture in color of the same dress.

I remember this dress so well. My mother had made a dress out of the same fabric for herself and I loved it and wanted one just like hers. She made this jumper for me out of the left over fabric. I wish I had a picture of the two of us in our matching dresses.
My mother was a wonderful seamstress and I always got lots of compliments on the clothes she made for me.

School Days

This is a picture of my mother and her classmates taken in 1927 in Robstown, TX. The two little girls in the matching striped sweaters are her twin cousins Eva and Iva Magee. My mother is sitting next to the twin holding the sign.

Here she is in 5th grade standing next to her teacher, also in Robstown.

This was taken in Falfurrias in 1932. My mother is in the 3rd row, 5th from the left. Notice the cute dog (class mascot?) in the front row.

My Mother's Birthday

Here is a picture of my mother who was born on April 17, 1918. She died on March 1, 1965. Today the dogs and I got up early and drove to Bryan to visit her grave. When J and I would go to Anderson every weekend I would visit the cemetery more often but now just go once or twice a year. To see more pictures or read more about her you can click on her name in the labels area.

Easter Pictures

Here are some old Easter pictures of me and my sister. My mother, her sister, and her parents are in some of the pictures too. Some were taken in Raymondville, some in Robstown, and some at our home on Drummond in Houston. I'm pretty sure my mother made all of the dresses my sister and I are wearing and also the ones she is wearing. She probably made the hats too.
.

This picture of my mother was taken in 1947 in Calallen on the Nueces River. She was sitting in a field of bluebonnets.

My mom

Today is my mother's birthday. She was born on April 17, 1918 and if she was alive would be 90 year's old today. Her Name was Lena Mae Wells LeGrand. She was born in Beaumont but spent most of her childhood in the Rio Grande Valley. I have included a picture of her as a child holding a cat. I remember that she always loved cats which is something I must have gotten from her. She was also a wonderful seamstress and made all of the dresses in the family picture. She loved to sew and would usually be doing that when I got home from school each day. I also remember her singing. One song I always associate with her is Que Sera Sera. She sang that song to me when I was really young. I have always loved the movie The Man Who Knew Too Much because Doris Day sings that song to her son in the movie. She died of ovarian cancer on March 1, 1965 and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her.
