Happy Birthday Bob Dylan

It's hard to believe Bob Dylan is 70 years old today. I can't remember the first time I ever heard him sing but at some point in my life he became my favorite singer/songwriter/artist. I don't know if I could come up with a favorite album or song and I don't associate any of his songs with events in my life like I do with other songs and albums by other artists. Strange that I can remember the first time I heard most Beatles songs and who I was with at the time but don't associate Dylan with anything or anyone. It's like his music was always present in my life.
If I had to pick a few favorite albums, I guess I would pick Bob Dylan at Budokan, Desire, Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks. I love the lyrics from Forever Young which seem a fitting birthday tribute.

"May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young."

Forever Young

In 1974, Bob Dylan released the song "Forever Young" on the album Planet Waves. It has always been a favorite of mine and now there is a beautifully illustrated book of the lyrics. The illustrator, Paul Rogers, has cleverly included images from other Dylan songs on all of the pages.

There is also this neat little video on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/m1YYXTW3RSQTLY

We have 17 copies of the book at HCPL. Thanks to Miss Grimm, who hearts Bob Dylan too, for showing me this book.
